In the early 1990s the UK set up a scheme where onsultants were hired, processes evaluated, and the result was the creation of the Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL), which was later made available to the public. Although the ITIL covers a number of areas, its main focus is on IT Service Management. IT infrastructure changes can impact the manner in which business is conducted or the continuity of business operations.
In the PRINCE2 process, the project team is appointed and a project brief (describing, in outline, what the project is attempting to achieve and the business justification for doing so) is prepared. Once the activities required to create these products are identified then it is possible to estimate the effort required for each and then schedule activities into a plan. Identifying the interdependencies will bring to light other procedures which may need to be enacted in conjunction with the recovery plan. Providing information to the organization is a vital element.
It is one of the most expensive options to implement. ITSM is related to the field of Management Information Systems (MIS) in scope.
Is ITIL V 3 Training Worth the Cost? The "Service Management" section of ITIL version 2 was made up of eleven different disciplines, split into two sections, Service Support and Service Delivery. Part of ITIL is maintaining a CMDB (Configuration Management Database).
