In the early 1990s the UK set up a scheme where onsultants were hired, processes evaluated, and the result was the creation of the Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL), which was later made available to the public. The names ITIL and IT Infrastructure Library are registered trademarks of the United Kingdom's Office of Government Commerce (OGC). The IT Service Delivery group supports the planning and delivery of IT services and consists of Service Level, Availability, Capacity, IT Service Continuity and Financial Management processes.
Common costs associated with ITSCM are the expenses incurred from risk management and recovery arrangements. There is just one effect for several causes and one cause for several effects. The goal of SAM is to reduce IT expenditures, human resource overhead and risks inherent in owning and managing software assets. Being a structured methodology widely recognised and understood, Prince2 provides a common language for all participants in the project.
Availability management delivers risk reduction measures to maintain business as usual. The concept of "Service" in an IT sense has a distinct operational connotation, but it would be incorrect then to assume that IT Service Management is only about IT operations.
The recovery plan should detail the instructions and procedures to recover or continue the operation of systems, infrastructure, services, or facilities. There are a variety of proprietary approaches available from IT service providers, consultants, and research firms. ITSM stands in deliberate contrast to technology-centered approaches to IT management and business interaction.
